A large portion of the S.H.E.I.L.D. was dedicated to the education of combat and giving a place where people can fight it out if they so choose to. There were three zones to accustom the wide verieity of existing and future members. Zone 1 was a room for normal combat, Zone 2 was a large battle field, and Zone three being a simulation room.
